Applying to the University

Posted by Admin
/ June 11, 2011 - السبت 11 رجب 1432 / 125 Comments

The university no longer accepts paper applications via mail or turned in on your behalf by someone else. The only way to apply now is online through the Minhatee i.e. scholarship program or in person. Please see http://admission.iu.edu.sa/IuAdvertisment.aspx

Now you can apply online and review application requirements on the official website of the Islamic University of Madinah.

http://admission.iu.edu.sa/Note.aspx

If you are going to visit Madinah, it is highly recommended that you apply in person.

Visit the university office of freshmen in the registration and admissions building with the required paper work. There you will fill out an application form. After you submit your paper work you will be interviewed.

Conditions of Acceptance

  • The applicant must be a Muslim male of good conduct.
  • The applicant must pledge to abide by all of the rules and regulations of the university.
  • The applicant must be healthy, carrying no communicable diseases.
  • The applicant must pass whatever tests and/or interviews conducted or requested by the university.
  • The applicant must possess a General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) from inside or outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – in other words, they must have completed high school. However, it is possible to apply to the university whilst still in high school using official transcripts.
  • The applicant must be dedicated to full-time study.
  • No more than FIVE (5) years should have passed since the completion of high school, although exceptions are made for those who enrolled in post-secondary education.
  • The age of the applicant must not exceed TWENTY-FIVE (25) years upon beginning study in the university. Although it is rarer, it is still possible for older applicants to be accepted.
  • Those who wish to apply to the Qur’aan faculty must have memorized the Qur’aan completely.
  • The applicant must abide by any other conditions defined by university management.

List of required documents:

  • A copy of your passport, with a copy of the visa that you entered the KSA with
  • A copy of your birth certificate
  • A copy of your high school/ secondary school diploma
  • A copy of your transcript of grades from high school/secondary school
  • Two letters of recommendation by teachers/Imams/community leaders
  • Four passport size photos

Note: All the above documents must be translated into Arabic to make the process easier and to increase your chances of acceptance.

May Allah make your affairs easy.

Also Do post-secondary degrees/transcripts need to be translated if completed? And are there any any places that you would recommend to translate documents, or can a local knowledgeable brother translate documents to avoid additional costs?

No, only your high school diploma and transcript need to be translated. Anyone who is able to translate the documents may do so. It does not need to be an official office and it does not have to cost you anything. We do not know any place, however, any Arabic speaker in your location should be able to help you.

JazakumAllahu Khayrun. 2 more points to inquire about, InshaAllah,

The testimony of conduct and the medical letter/report. Both of these are listed on the University website as required documents, but not listed above.

What should be stated in the testimony, since there wasn’t a description given on the website.

For the doctors letter, was it not listed above because it is not necessary?

We have answered this many times before.
The testimony of conduct is a document that states that you are illegible to study and that you are a good person.
There is a difference between the documents that must be turned in for applying and the documents that are required upon acceptance. Many people mix the two together.

A person who wishes to enroll in the Faculty of Quran upon acceptance must be a Hafiz of Quran. If a person has not applied yet, he need not worry about choosing a faculty, this comes after acceptance. Memorizing the Quran is highly recommended for any one wishing to seek sacred knowledge.

If a person has AIDS or the type of Hepatitis that is contagious, he is not allowed to study in the IUM. This is why there is a medical exam before the visa gets issued and another one upon the student’s arrival in Madinah, to make sure he does not carry any contagious diseases.

The meaning of the word communicable as per dictionary.com is capable of being easily transmitted: a communicable disease.

Apply as soon as you can because there is no guarantee that you get accepted once you apply.

Even if you were to get accepted for 2012-2013 you can request a delay of acceptance.

Our advice, just apply as soon as you can and wait to hear back from the university.

assalamulikum, i have one more question about the translating of documents, how is it supposed to look like, for example the passport, how would it look like translated? or anything of the required? jazakallhukhair. and also like for the high school diploma to be translated, do you just translate the english part into arabic, and what is it has signatures on the bottom or something and a picture. hope you understand inshallah. jazakallahukhair

The most important aspects of translating a document are:

To state the name of the document i.e. high school diploma
state the name of the person on the document i.e. the name of the graduate as it appears on the diploma
state the dates on the document i.e. date of graduation
state the name and location of the school i.e. where the person graduated from

There is no need to translate the signatures.

      For a passport:

State the name of the document i.e. U.S.A. passport, the number of the passport, your name as it appears on the passport, your birth date, your nationality, your place of birth, the date the passport was issued and the expiry date, and the location where the passport was issued. Basically, the front page of your passport is what needs to be translated. The photo does not need to be translated.

We hope the answer is clear.

Salam Aliekum ……….. I am very interested in applying to the university .. to learn Arabic .. for 2012-2013 …… unfortunately I do not meet all of the universities requirements. I left high school one year before its completion. I left in year 11 . I finished with quiet decent grades though HUMDALLAH. I am 23 years old now but because I left school early I have been out of school 6 years now. Since leaving high school I have received a (certificate 3 in COMMUNITY SERVICES..)……… I did not revert to ISLAM till the age of 20 and was wondering if the university would take my situation into consideration if I apply I am thinking about flying over in Febuary to hand my application in in person if I can save up enough money in time INSHALLAH ..

You need to obtain/get a GED. If you do so, it will solve the problem of being out of school for 6 years because you would be back in school. Apply for a GED test and study to receive the diploma. You are within the age limit of 25. After you obtain the GED you will officially qualify for applying to the university. You may then apply online. If you are able to, you may also come to Madinah for an interview, after applying online.

We did not say a person can apply while in high school. It may be possible. As far as we know, a high school diploma is an application requirement. You can try applying with no diploma and see what happens.
The stated condition for acceptance is that no more than five years have passed since the applicant graduated high school.

    As-Salamou’alaykoum,
    I’ve 4 questions,

    1)
I am from Belgium and I’m now in the 5th form of the secundary school. I am very interested in studying at the university . First of all to learn the Arabic language and afterwards to study in another faculty.
So I would like to apply for 2013-2014. But I don’t have my diploma yet. I’ll have it “Insha’Allah” on 30/06/13. But I don’t want to wait until then, because I would now be certain whether I will be accepted by then or not. What should I do best?

    2)
When does the school year begin and when does it end and when are the holidays and the exam periods.

    3)
How much does it cost to register for the university of Madinah?

    4)
How do the new students find a room where they will sleep for the whole time of their studies in Madinah? I’ve heard that there are rooms with 2 persons and rooms with multiple people. Are the price differences low or not?

    Djazaka’Allahou Ghairan !

If you do not have a diploma, how can you fulfill the application requirements?

If you wish to apply now, just do it. If the website does not allow you to apply without your diploma then you have no other choice but to wait until you receive it.

The school year begins in September of every year and ends in June. The holidays are the last ten days of Ramadan, ten days of Hajj and Eid, the two week semester break, and a one week spring break in the second semester.

It does not cost anything to apply to the university or study therein. Students who are accepted receive a full scholarship.

A student will be directed to his dorm room upon arrival to the university. The Student Affairs department is responsible for housing the students. The dorm room is part of the scholarship and hence it does not cost anything to the student.

May Allah make your affairs easy and guide you to do what pleases Him.

The decision to accept student is usually announced between July-September every year.

The school year starts in September, if the student misses the first semester due to the acceptance being too late, the second semester starts at the end of January or early February.

Due to finance reasons I’m not sure weather I will be able to get to Madinah in March for the interview. If I cant make it in March but inshallah I can afford the trip by April early May … Will I still be allowed to sit an interview at the University or will the Interview stage of the application be closed when the on-line applications are closed. “Before you start an application make sure you have ALL the required documents in your possession along with their Arabic translations. Once you start an online application you will have 10 days to amend it. If you try to submit additional applications every single one of your applications will be cancelled, and no application will be accepted from you that year.”

    1) If a brother does not have the finances to travel to madinah for the interview, does that necessarily mean hes not as likely to get a position within the university as apoose to someone who did come in for it?

    2) I know theirs alot of talk of a womans faculty being open soon, Alhamdulilah im currently engaged in the moment Soon to be married inshaAllah, and im looking to apply to this university but with the possibility of bringing my wife as well. Even if their is no womans faculty is it still possible to briing a wife with you down?

No it does not. Many people are accepted merely through applying online. It is not a condition to come in person for an interview. We said, it increases the chances of getting accepted in some occasions.

You are not able to bring your wife with you immediately once you are accepted except if she has other means of coming, like having a job with a resident visa. We will soon post past answers for this topic. Please read the posts on bringing your wife with you.

We do know that applicants from Muslim minority countries have a better chance of getting accepted. An example of this is applicants from South America. The reason for this is the fact that only a few people apply from these countries and hence the chances of acceptance increase. In countries that have a Muslim majority and where applicants are more, the chances of acceptance become less.

A transcript of grades is an official documents that states the subjects you studied in high school and the scores/grades you received. This document is usually given to prove that the graduate has successfully completed the required subjects for graduation.

salaam, I am 20 and am expecting to graduate with my bachelors degree in May of this year inshaAllah. I was hoping to work for a year or two to save up money after my graduation and then apply to the jaamia, could you go into more detail on the exceptions to the five year since high school graduation rule(I graduated high school in 2009) that are made for those who are enrolled in a post-secondary program? Jazakum Allah Khair.

The rule stands but if someone is still within the 25 years of age limit than that rule might be overlooked. It is ideal to apply before the five years have passed. Acceptance to the university is not automatic or guaranteed. If you wish to study you should apply as soon as possible even if you wish to work and make some money after graduation from college. For instance, if you apply in May of 2012 you will be considered for the 2013-2014 school year which would give you a few years to work and you would still be within the five year limit. In fact you will still be with it that limit until 2014.

If I apply online before the deadline, can I still come to Madinah to interview once they stop accepting admission online? In other words, would I be able to interview in say March or April?

I am from Pakistan and a college student in Part-II, I want to apply in Madinah university to study about real ISLAM and then communicate to other muslims. Please furnish me these clarifications:

    1) Now I want to apply for 2012-2013 batch but till now our secondary school board did not delivered the shool certificate but I have mark sheet or transcript. I want to know can I apply with transcript only having detailed subjects with marks?

    2) For interview if a student can not afford financially to come in Madinah then university will support? and the visit visa will university award for interview to come in KSA?

    3) Is online interview possible?

Please clarify me above mentioned matters.

You can try to apply with whatever documents you have and see if it works.

The university does not offer financial assistance to those who wish to come to Madinah for a personal interview, nor does it award visit visas. The interview is designed for the people who are already here on Hajj or Umrah.

If you apply online, an interview is not necessary.

Sorry i know you probably answered this question many times before, but i looked through the web site and could not find an answer. So where do i get testimony of conduct? And also it appears to me, to get accepted in Umm ul Qura one has to obtain government permission to study in Saudi Arabia. Is it condition for Al Madinah as well? Sorry for the same-type questions, i just want to be sure i have all my documents together and in complete state. May Allah Ta’alya reward you

Testimony of conduct could be obtained from any Islamic organization or known personality in your locality to testify that you are of good character.

You do not need the permission document to apply to Madinah.

What needs to be translated is your personal information page with your photo on it. It is only one page of the passport.

You should upload the original in one place and the translation in another if the website directs you to. If there is only one place for the upload, it would be for the original English.

No, they can not at this time.

The Dean has announced that there will sometime in the future be a women’s section to the University, and was mentioned that the wives of the students will have the ability to apply.
As to ‘when’ this will happen, no timeline has been given.

There does exist a secular university which has an Islamic Studies division which is the neigboring university next to IUM. It’s called Tayybah University and sisters who have families with them have been known to study there. And Allah knows best.

Got a few questions for you:
1 – I was born in 1992 in Somalia, at the time the country was in war, and there wasn’t a recognized government or system. Because of that i don’t have a birth certificate. But i have a British Passport, which i got after we fled the country, through asylum seeker. What can i do?
2 – I’ve already attained my GCSE in London, but currently I’m in Kenya, Thika, studying in Thika College for Sharia and Islamic Studies. Firstly it’s my college recommendation enough , and secondly I’m currently not in my country, should I get my visa from Kenya or London. All my documents will be from Kenya since I’m studying here.

You have to try with what you have. Is there a way for you to get a document that states that you were born in Somalia on the date you were born on even if it is not an official birth certificate?

You have to ask the Saudi embassy in Kenya the second question about obtaining a visa.

You do not need any college documents. The recommendation might be useful but your grades are not needed.

The British passport shows Place of Birth and Date of Birth.. although it only shows the city you were born in and not the country, would that not be enough to be treated as birth certificate for those whom do not have it ?

Apply after March and you will be considered for the 2013-2014 school year.

Testimony of conduct is how you are now, not in the past. If an Imam or Islamic organization in your community write something to state that you a good person it should suffice.

It is a requirement for the application so you must have it.

After browsing the uploading a picture of the ID and clicking “continue”, it still asks for the same document. I am planning on making Umrah in March and was wondering if you would recommend applying online now or waiting to applying in person when I get to Madinah with the help of the student I already know there inshaAllah? In addition to submitting all the correct translated documentation, would having a verbal or written recommendation from a current student in good academic standing improve my chances of being accepted?

You may use any letters of recommendation, no matter where the source is on the map.

You do not need to re apply.

    Assalamu Alaikum

How long is the period for adjusting your application. Mine was submitted over 2 weeks ago, yet when I do the inquiry it still gives me the option to amend it.

    JazakAllah Khair.
